India's EV Transition to be Inclusive, Sustainable: Kumaraswamy

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy emphasized the importance of ensuring that the shift towards electric mobility in India is accessible and economically viable for individuals in both urban and rural areas.
"What we need now is reliability, ease of access, and, most importantly, interoperability. We must ensure that India's EV transition remains inclusive and economically sustainable," he says.

The minister further says, "Our approach should continue to focus on affordability for consumers, viability for industry, and scalability across both urban and rural markets."
He highlighted the significance of affordability and scalability in this transition.
He stated that light electric vehicles will continue to play a crucial role in this regard, as they function as the main form of transportation for millions of people in India.
Kumaraswamy expressed optimism about India's potential to not only play a leading role within its own borders but also on the world stage.
"If we can develop cost-effective and scalable solutions here, we can take them to our emerging markets across Asia, Africa and Latin America that share similar mobility needs," he adds.

The minister emphasized that the effectiveness of this transition will ultimately rely on robust collaborations between the government and the industry.
He guaranteed that the government will maintain its commitment to offering policy backing, fostering innovation, and enhancing manufacturing environments.
"At the same time, industry collaboration like what we are seeing through LEAF will be critical in delivering real impact on the ground," Kumaraswamy says.
LEAF possesses the inherent capability to transcend being merely a platform, as it stands as a prime example of how collective efforts can propel substantial transformation throughout the entire network, as stated by the speaker.
The LEAF consortium is an impartial industry organization that is dedicated to advancing the infrastructure for electric vehicle charging in order to promote the increased usage of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

The collaborative effort is propelled by a partnership between Hero MotoCorp Ltd's Emerging Mobility Business Unit, IPEC India, and Ather Energy Ltd.
According to experts, India possesses the capability to establish itself as a prominent figure in the worldwide light electric mobility sector. They emphasized that programs such as LEAF play a crucial role in realizing this potential by developing a more comprehensive and expandable public charging infrastructure.
