Nvidia, a chip manufacturer from Silicon Valley, intends to provide hundreds of thousands of its graphics processing units for initiatives with South Korean companies and the government to enhance the nation's artificial intelligence infrastructure and technologies.
The initiative was revealed on Friday by the government, Nvidia, and several major South Korean firms, such as chip manufacturers Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and automotive leader Hyundai Motor, following President Lee Jae Myung's meeting with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
Since arriving in South Korea on Thursday for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum meetings in Gyeongju, Huang has received a rockstar welcome similar to that of Apple's Steve Jobs. In its role as APEC host, South Korea is seizing the opportunity of the leaders' meeting to highlight its aspirations in AI.
