Prasar Bharati Board Chairman Navneet Sehgal Resigns

Navneet Kumar Sehgal, the Chairman of the board for the state broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, has tendered his resignation. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has duly acknowledged and accepted his resignation.

Sehgal, a retired officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from the 1988 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, assumed the position of chief of India's public service broadcaster on March 16, 2024.

His appointment for a three-year term followed his retirement from the Civil Services in July 2023, where he held the role of Additional Chief Secretary to the Uttar Pradesh Government.

Throughout his 35-year professional tenure, he assumed diverse positions within both State and Central governments, contributing significantly to infrastructure enhancement and administrative transformations.

“With extensive experience in areas such as Media, Public Relations, General Administration, Finance, Industry, Law and Order, Land Management, and Home Affairs, he was entrusted with significant responsibilities by both the Central and State Governments,” his profile page on the Prasar Bharati states.

Sehgal's background showcases a number of notable achievements in various projects. In his capacity as Chairman and CEO of the UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), he oversaw the successful construction of the 302-km Agra-Lucknow Expressway in an exceptional 22-month timeframe.

Subsequently, he served as Principal Secretary (Tourism) where he played a key role in spearheading significant development endeavors.

 

Transitioning to the position of Principal Secretary (MSME), he championed Uttar Pradesh's prominent One District One Product (ODOP) program.

In his role as Secretary (Energy), Shegal played a key part in reforms in power distribution and strategic planning for increased generation capacity. Furthermore, he played a significant role in the planning of metro rail projects, policy development with renowned international organizations such as the World Bank, and the implementation of water supply initiatives supported by JICA.

Announcing the decision, the Ministry says, “The President, on the recommendation of the Selection Committee, is pleased to appoint Navneet Kumar Sehgal, IAS (retd) as the Chairman of the Prasar Bharati Board with effect from the date of his assuming charge of the post for a term of three years or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier”.
