Trump’s Deal with Russia Gives Putin an Economic Edge over Ukraine

President Trump’s agreement to purchase Russian diesel fuel, along with his strong insistence on Ukraine to refrain from attacking Russian oil refineries, may significantly strengthen Moscow in its economic conflict with Kyiv.
Energy experts indicated that the diesel deal, if it proceeds, could inject around $4 billion of U.S. funds into the Russian economy. A stop to refinery strikes, if Ukraine agrees to one, may prove far more beneficial to the Kremlin.
Ukraine is anticipated to receive no benefits in return as Trump seeks Russian assistance in his attempt to reduce soaring diesel prices, primarily triggered by the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, ahead of the midterm elections next month.
Moscow is still at liberty to persist in assaulting Ukrainian ports, steel mills, storage facilities, energy plants, and data hubs, a strategy that is steadily driving Ukraine’s economy to a crisis. According to Ukraine’s economy minister, these attacks result in the loss of almost $10 billion in business assets annually.
Simultaneously, Trump is insisting that Kyiv give up its strongest means of cutting off revenue to the Russian war effort. Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries, along with assaults on other enterprises, have resulted in a loss of approximately 1 percent of Russia's gross domestic product, President Vladimir V. Putin admitted this month.
