In recognition of National Road Safety Month, Zomato, the food ordering and delivery service in India, has initiated a multi-city effort focused on translating awareness into concrete, actionable steps.

The firm is providing compulsory safe driving education for delivery associates, in addition to distributing over 2,000 BIS-certified helmets. The initiative aims to enhance road safety measures via organized, practical training conducted by traffic police and certified experts.

The initial phase took place in Delhi in partnership with the Delhi Traffic Police, featuring a bike rally to encourage responsible riding.

Aditya Mangla, CEO, Zomato says, "Delivery partners are the backbone of our business and their safety and wellbeing is and continues to be a top priority. Through this initiative, we aim to empower delivery partners with the  knowledge and practical skills around road safety, enabling them to make better decisions and respond effectively in critical situations.”

As part of the initiative, delivery partners will undergo 90–120 minutes of professional, traffic police-led training focused on responsible driving techniques for navigating high-density urban traffic, maintaining safe following distances, and anticipating road risks. The training also covers the 'Golden Hour' protocol, which refers to the first hour after an accident or medical emergency, during which timely first aid or support can improve the chances of survival and reduce the severity of injuries.

Delivery partners will be trained in basic first-aid and emergency response steps to assist themselves or others during this critical period. In cities including Chandigarh, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune, traffic police-led training sessions will be conducted at Traffic Training Parks to simulate real-world road hazards in a controlled environment.

Delivery partners will also receive guidance on helmet maintenance, the importance of BIS-certified chin straps, helmet lifespan, and adherence to traffic rules and penalties.

Reinforcing its commitment to delivery partner safety through a comprehensive, end-to-end approach, Zomato has made safety briefings mandatory before delivery partners begin delivering, with a strong emphasis on helmet usage, road discipline, and responsible riding.

Each working day begins with a safety pledge that reiterates delivery partners’ responsibility towards their own safety and that of others on the road. While on duty, delivery partners receive real-time weather updates and precautionary alerts via the Zomato delivery partner mobile app, along with access to a 24×7 in-app SOS feature that enables rapid ambulance support during emergencies. In addition, all delivery partners are covered under comprehensive insurance.
