Blue Dart Express is undergoing a leadership transition, as R.S. Subramanian has been named as Managing Director after Balfour Manuel opted for early retirement after over 40 years with the logistics firm.

Subramanian will take on the MD position on November 30, 2026, and his term will extend until May 25, 2030. He is presently the Senior Vice President for South Asia and Managing Director of DHL Express India, as well as a member of the DHL Express Asia Pacific Management Board.

The leadership change occurs as Manuel resigns from his role as Managing Director and director at the end of business on November 29, 2026.

According to Blue Dart, Manuel pursued early retirement due to personal obligations and to enable a smooth transition. The company’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee along with the board have eliminated the required six-month notice period.

Manuel will exit the board but will maintain his connection with Blue Dart as a Senior Strategic Advisor to the Managing Director until May 15, 2027. The position is designed to ensure stability and assistance throughout the transition of leadership.

Manuel's departure signifies the end of a 43-year relationship with Blue Dart. In his resignation message, he characterized his time with the company as the pivotal part of his professional journey, emphasizing its people, focus on customers, and culture of excellence.

At 61, Subramanian offers over 30 years of expertise across product-driven and service industries, encompassing business strategy, marketing, customer relationship management, and organizational development.

He started his journey with DHL Express India as Head of Sales before assuming various leadership roles within the South Asia cluster. His responsibilities encompassed markets like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, and Bhutan.

In 2010, Subramanian was named Managing Director of DHL Express India. Throughout his time, the company boosted investments in technology and infrastructure while enhancing operational and personnel processes.

Prior to his tenure at DHL, he dedicated 14 years to Hindustan Unilever, engaging in sales, marketing, and export management. Subramanian is already well-acquainted with Blue Dart's management and governance, having been a board member since March 27, 2019. He presently occupies the role of Non-Executive Director.

His engagement in the industry also goes beyond the DHL and Blue Dart framework. He holds the position of Vice Chairman of the Express Industry Council of India and is part of the Advisory Council of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce.

His advancement to the MD role thus merges experience from the larger DHL group with a prior connection to Blue Dart, as the firm gears up for the upcoming stage of its leadership.
