GMR Aero Technic Partners Honeywell Aerospace for MRO Services

GMR Aero Technic, a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) organization for airframes, has entered into a licensing agreement with Honeywell Aerospace for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of line replaceable units (LRUs) for Leap Engines.

According to this agreement, GMR Aero Technic, located in Hyderabad, will provide extensive repair, overhaul, and depot-level maintenance services for seven Honeywell aerospace LRUs fitted on LEAP engines that power Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX planes. This scope encompasses complete disassembly, examination, repair, reassembly, and performance testing of essential engine control systems.

By leveraging Honeywell’s technology and our advanced repair infrastructure, we aim to deliver high-quality, efficient, and reliable repair solutions for LEAP Engine operators in India and across the region,’’ Ashok Gopinath, President & Accountable Manager, GMR Aero Technic says.

Importantly, GMR Aero Technic will be a vital partner as we expand our operations and enhance our MRO capabilities in India.”

The partnership combines Honeywell’s worldwide knowledge in aircraft systems and cutting-edge technologies with GMR Aero Technic’s modern infrastructure, accredited facilities, and experienced personnel.

This initiative aims to greatly improve turnaround times by facilitating in-region repairs, while also boosting service quality and providing more economical repair options for airline customers in India and the surrounding area.

 

Previously, GMR Aero Technic (GAT), a top aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) provider in India based at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), has entered into a contract with Boeing Defence India Private Limited (BDIPL) to conduct Phase-56 Heavy Maintenance Checks on the Boeing P-8I maritime patrol aircraft fleet used by the Indian Navy.

The Boeing P-8I is an extended-range maritime surveillance and reconnaissance plane, built for counter-submarine operations, surface warfare, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance tasks. It serves as a vital resource for the Indian Navy, offering sophisticated capabilities to safeguard India's maritime interests and maintain operational preparedness.

The Indian Navy presently has a fleet of 12 P-8I aircraft stationed in squadrons at INS Rajali in Tamil Nadu and INS Hansa in Goa.

According to the agreement, GMR Aero Technic will perform Phase-56 heavy maintenance inspections for the Boeing P-8I aircraft at its MRO facility in the GMR Aerospace Park Special Economic Zone in Hyderabad. The maintenance tasks will encompass structural enhancements, thorough inspections, painting, and system improvements in line with Boeing and defense aviation maintenance requirements.
