Satya Nadella, Microsoft's CEO, achieved his largest yearly compensation package since assuming leadership more than 10 years ago, collecting an impressive $96.5 million in fiscal 2025. This enhanced remuneration represents a notable jump from the prior year's $79.1 million and reflects Microsoft's remarkable growth, largely fueled by the company's bold ventures into artificial intelligence innovation.

Microsoft's board compensation committee credited this significant increase to Nadella's forward-thinking leadership throughout the last 10 years since he became chief executive. The board noted that Nadella and his management team have "established Microsoft as a dominant force in artificial intelligence during this transformative technological era."

Approximately 90 percent of the CEO's total compensation consists of Microsoft stock, ensuring his financial rewards are directly connected to the company's sustained share price performance. Nadella continues to receive a conservative base salary of $2.5 million.

Since becoming Microsoft's third chief executive in 2014, Nadella has played a crucial role in steering the organization toward cloud services through Azure over the last decade.

In recent years, Nadella has focused extensively on embedding generative artificial intelligence throughout Microsoft's range of products, an approach that has led to dramatic increases in the company's market value.

Microsoft's senior leadership team experienced substantial compensation increases, with Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood receiving $29.5 million and Judson Althoff, who oversees the company's commercial operations, obtaining a total compensation package of $28.2 million.

The company's current dominance in generative artificial intelligence extends beyond massive financial commitments and stems from a strategic alliance with OpenAI. Through Nadella's leadership, Microsoft has leveraged its multi-billion-dollar investment in OpenAI to gain exclusive access to advanced models such as GPT-4 and DALL-E, incorporating them throughout its product portfolio. This approach led to the development of Microsoft Copilot, an AI-powered assistant that has been integrated into Windows, Office 365, and the Edge browser.

In addition to artificial intelligence initiatives, Nadella has focused on expanding Microsoft's fundamental business areas, particularly the Azure cloud platform. Azure remains the primary rival to Amazon Web Services and continues to capitalize on worldwide enterprise investment in digital transformation initiatives

During Nadella's leadership, Microsoft executed its most significant acquisition by purchasing Activision Blizzard for approximately $69 billion. The organization has also recently reduced its workforce across international locations as part of efforts to modernize operations through AI integration in work environments.
