
Sri Lankan PM Harini Amarasuriya Arrives in New Delhi

Harini Amarasuriya, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, reached New Delhi for her first official trip to India since taking office. This visit upholds the ongoing practice of consistent and intimate cooperation between both nations, reinforcing their established ties of friendship.
Throughout her trip, she will engage with Indian government officials to address shared bilateral concerns. During her visit, she will present the main speech at the NDTV World Summit, a collaborative event hosted by NDTV and the Chintan Research Foundation in Delhi.
Additionally, the MEA noted that Amarasuriya, who serves as Sri Lanka's Education Minister, will tour the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and NITI Aayog to investigate potential partnerships in education and technology sectors.

"PM @Dr_HariniA of Sri Lanka has arrived in New Delhi on her maiden visit to India as PM of Sri Lanka. The visit continues the tradition of regular and close engagements between both India and Sri Lanka, strengthening the deep-rooted bonds of friendship," MEA wrote on X.
“This will be my first official visit to India as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. India and Sri Lanka, as you are aware, are closely tied together by history, culture, and shared values. Our relationship is one of great depth and importance and I look forward to using this opportunity to strengthen our cooperation in every sphere, such as trade, investment, education, development and beyond,” Amarasuriya said ahead of his India visit.

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister, a notable graduate of Hindu College at Delhi University, will also return to her former institution. She will additionally take part in a commercial gathering aimed at enhancing business connections between the nations, as reported by the MEA.
This journey maintains the pattern of consistent senior-level diplomatic exchanges between India and Sri Lanka, promoting their comprehensive and diverse bilateral relationship. The visit will further consolidate their friendship ties, supported by India's 'MAHASAGAR Vision' and 'Neighbourhood First' approach, the MEA announced.
On October 2, Amarasuriya, accompanied by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, placed flowers at Mahatma Gandhi's statue located at Temple Trees, the Prime Minister's residence in Colombo.
The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka maintains ties to India through her educational background. She graduated from Hindu College, which is part of the University of Delhi, and plans to return to visit her former institution. From 1991 to 1994, Amarasuriya completed her undergraduate studies in Sociology at Delhi University.

When Amarasuriya assumed the role of Sri Lankan Prime Minister in September, Hindu College's Principal Anju Srivastava conveyed her pride regarding this notable former student of the institution.
