Tata Motors Partners With Welspun For 86 MW Wind-Solar Project

Tata Motors Ltd. has joined forces with Welspun Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd. to create an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid initiative that will provide green energy to four of the automaker's production sites.
The two firms have established a long-term power purchase agreement for the project, which will solely serve Tata Motors' facilities in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka.
When operational, the hybrid project is projected to produce approximately 200 million units of renewable energy each year. Tata Motors projects that this could prevent over 1.4 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The initiative will integrate wind and solar energy, contributing to a steadier supply of renewable electricity compared to a project sourced from only one type. It will be supported by co-investment from the firms along with the ongoing power purchase contract.

The renewable energy initiative will be established using a co-investment approach and supported by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement. The combined wind-solar hybrid system aims to deliver a more dependable renewable energy source by merging the complementary production patterns of wind and solar power.
The clean energy produced from this initiative will be solely utilized by Tata Motors’ facilities for commercial vehicle production in the four states. This renders the collaboration important not only for acquiring renewable energy but also for achieving operational decarbonisation.
Tata Motors has been focusing on boosting the proportion of renewable energy in its facilities, and this initiative will aid the company’s RE100 goal for 2030. RE100 is an international program in which businesses pledge to obtain all their electricity from renewable sources.
Tata Motors has made sustainability a central element of its long-term business strategy. The firm has been putting money into eco-friendly vehicle innovations, such as electric buses, electric trucks, alternative-fuel vehicles, and more efficient powertrains. Nonetheless, lowering emissions from production activities is an equally crucial aspect of the company's net-zero path.
