Veteran Socialist Leader Baba Adhav Passes Away
The esteemed socialist veteran, Baba Adhav, departed on Monday evening at 95 years of age. He is remembered by his wife Shilatai, sons Aseem and Amber, and grandchildren. Dr.Abhijit Vaidya, a renowned cardiologist and consultant physician with over thirty years of experience, disclosed that Baba Adhav had been battling multiple myeloma for the past five years, alongside complications of lung infection and kidney failure.
He was hospitalized at Poona medical center on November 24th due to age-related health issues.

Dr. Vaidya reported that he was experiencing symptoms of fever and cough, which had progressed to pneumonia.
During his teenage years, Adhav was part of the Rashtra Seva Dal and was motivated by Mahatma Gandhi. He earned a diploma in medical sciences from Tarachand Ramnath Ayurveda College in Rasta Peth. In the 1950s, he took part in the Goa Liberation and Samyukta Maharashtra Movement. Adhav subsequently contributed to the development of trade unions in the Pune region.
Adhav continued to go to his office in Kashewadi every day at 10 am sharp until 2023, when he was 93 years old.
He would hold meetings with various groups, such as porter organizations, vendors, unionists, and others. Adhav had previously been a municipal councilor for two terms from the Bhavani Peth constituency in 1963.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his condolence message wrote, “The news of the demise of senior social worker Baba Adhav is very sad. He continuously fought for the rights of the deprived and unorganised sections. He worked as their pillar. He formed an organization to provide justice to the porters, rickshaw pullers, and construction workers. He implemented many initiatives like Hamaal Panchayat, Ek Gaon-Ek Panwatha. His fight against social evils will always be remembered.”
This marked his fourth occurrence of pneumonia within recent years. Regrettably, he passed away during the late hours of Monday evening, as confirmed by Dr. Vaidya.
The body of Baba Adhav will lie in state at Hamal Bhavan Market Yard starting at 10 am on Tuesday to allow individuals to offer their respects. The cremation ceremony is scheduled to take place at approximately 4 pm.
Multiple unions representing autorickshaw drivers and street vendors are expected to suspend operations on Tuesday in honor of Baba Adhav. Leaders from various political parties expressed their condolences for the late Baba Adhav.

Last week, Sharad Pawar, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), visited Baba Adhav in the hospital to inquire about his well-being. Pawar and Adhav shared a strong bond and frequently engaged in conversations regarding various matters impacting society.
Adhav was direct and forthright in his communication, making it clear when stating the truth. Following the split within the NCP two years ago, with Ajit Pawar leading 40 MLAs out, he cautioned individuals to remain mindful of the challenging times ahead.
